Latest Newsletter Information President's Corner I am very excited about the accomplishments of the Pioneer/Lucas FFA Chapter so far this year. We have been hard at work planning for the upcoming year. You will see FFA members helping out in many community service activities, attending many judging contests, participating in leadership work shops and conventions, while having fun. So far we have had a great educational display at the Belleville Street Fair, and are planning to attend the National FFA Convention. Our chapter has just completed a fruit sale, a community blood drive, and is planning other upcoming events. I am looking forward to an exciting fun filled year for Pioneer/Lucas FFA. Good luck to our members as they participate in Career Development Events. Best Wishes, Kimberly Schaad President Fruit Sale Kickoff Our annual citrus fruit sale starts October 13 and we will be taking orders through November 17. Last year we had a great turn out, but our goal is to sell twice as much fruit and cheesecakes. This year we will be selling citrus fruit, mixed boxes, and cheesecakes. The fruit will be arriving at the Lucas Agriculture Shop around December 5th, and should be delivered shortly after. If anyone wants to buy fruit please contact any Pioneer/Lucas FFA member or call the Lucas High school and talk to Mr. Wolf. Bellville
Fair
This year at the Bellville Street Fair FFA students gathered up as much
locally produced fruit, vegetables, nuts, canned goods, and herbs to make a
educational display. During a wet Wednesday Senior and Junior FFA members set up
the produce before the fair started. Our display earned us fist place this year.
Good Work FFA Members! Pioneer/Lucas FFA members also took many swine
projects to the fair in hopes of winning first prize. We would also like to
thank the Lucas Buyers Club for their support over the years in ensuring that
our members get a fair price for their projects. Soils Students have been working very hard to improve their soil knowledge and skills for the soil career development event. The soil team traveled to Clear Fork for the county contest. Their results turned out great. Congratulations! Farm Science Review Students had the choice of going on the annual field trip to London Oh., to the Farm Science Review (FSR) and spending a day in exploring the farming world . The FSR is a place where many farmers and FFA Chapters gather together to communicate with one another and look at the new products, getting information on crops. The FSR expands the student’s minds on agriculture. Richland County fair This year at the Richland Co. fair there were 12 exhibitors including hogs, and feeder calves. The members participated in showmanship shows as well as exhibiting in market classes. There was only a couple students who's animals didn't make weight so they had a couple of months until Bellville Street Fair to have their animals ready to go and the appropriate weight. We would have like to have had more exhibitors at the fair this year but that is going to be a goal we are going to work on this school year. FFA Degrees It is time once again for FFA members to start preparing their record books for district evaluation if they plan to apply for the State FFA Degree, American FFA degree, or proficiency award. Mr. Wolf will be available after school, during breaks, and on the weekends to help FFA members fill out their books and degree application correctly. Any sophomore, Junior, and Senior with an acceptable SAE and who meet the minimum requirements can apply for a proficiency award. Any Junior or Senior with an acceptable SAE and who meets the minimum requirements can apply for the Sate or American FFA degree. If there are any questions, please contact Mr. Wolf at the school. National Convention We attended the 80th National convention this year. It was October 24-27. It was held in Indiana. We left at 2:00 in the morning and went to spend a day in Chicago. There we went to the Chicago Board of Trade, and sears tower. We also visited museum of science and Industry this was a very educational and hands on museum. Then the next day we went to Indiana where we attended many sessions with speakers who told us there life stories. Blood Drive This year the Chapter held another blood drive for a community service project. Last year was our first time in a while doing this and it turned out very well. This year was another good turn out. There will be another one in the spring and the date will be posted later. |
